The modder who compiled the all-in-one FOMOD that I link to above has a few pretty useful tutorials that will at least get you started. I find that the XML schema for HDT-SMP physics is simultaneously more granular in its control and easier to understand than regular HDT-PE settings, so it’s relatively easy to tweak the settings to your preferences. Since HDT hairs and outfits all come with their own XML control files that are linked to their meshes, they continue to work as normal. Deleting the hdtPhysicsExtensionsDefaultBBP file prevents HDT-PE from controlling body physics, leaving it to SMP.

SMP and standard HDT-PE work fine together, as long as they’re not fighting for control of character physics.

Check through your install order for any instances of that file added by, e.g., Bodyslide, other HDT bodies, etc. Then browse to data/SKSE/plugins and delete or rename the file called “hdtPhysicsExtensionsDefaultBBP.xml”.First, install both HDT Physics Extensions and HDT SMP (the second link goes to Loverslab, an all-in-one installler that also adds a lot of other SMP-related stuff like UUNP/CBBE Bodyslide settings etc.).Brief tutorial - getting HDT-PE and HDT-SMP working together.
